About Joy J. Kaimaparamban
My real name is John Joseph and assumed ‘Joy J. Kaimaparamban’ as the pen name.
I was born on October 1939 in a middle class family of Kerala, the south most state of India. After education I became a schoolmaster. Worked in several Kerala government schools and retired in 1995. Now residing at Vayalar, a beautiful lakeside village in Alappuzha (Alleppey) district with my wife and two children.
From early childhood I acquired the habit of reading. It grew into the craze of reading all kinds of books, fiction and non-fiction. I could read so many works of the old masters when I was in high school classes. Afterwards I read creations of modern writers. Because of the reading habit, my studies were badly affected by it. Wrote several books including works for children in Malayalam, my mother tongue. Two novels won awards.
Before retirement I have had an idea of writing novels in English. I felt the people around me being characters of unattempted works. After retirement I started writing my first novel in English, ‘The Azure of Solicitude’. By 1998 I could complete the work and tried making it perfect. The novel is published in the year 2009 and now available online through major bookstores including Amazon.
As my soul had been filling with new outlines I could not sit as an idol. I began moving my pen for the creation of new novels. Among it, the second one ‘The Ayurvedic Healer’ reflects the time between 1919 and 1956. The story is based on the life of an Ayurvedic Physician, who lived for treating all kinds of diseased persons without caring their creed, caste, community and religion. This novel has been published by Copperhill Media Corporation, Massachusetts, USA in the year 2010.
My thrid novel 'The Wildfire' is in the backdrop of Malabar Riot, which was occurred following the First World War. It started as a liberty struggle and grew into a big riot causing the killing of numerous innocent people and was suppressed by the military force of Britain who had been ruling India at the time.
My fourth novel, 'The Seagulls' describes the story of fishermen folks liviing on the shore of Arabian Ocean. I am trying to depict the beauty of Alleppey (Venice of the East), the poor village life, their strange beliefs etc. I believe this will be a new experience to the readers.
'The Land of Forgs' is a work for children. It is the story of the country of frogs ruled by the King Goldine.
Presently I am on the creation of my new novel, which is yet ot be named, narrating the story of people engaged in the construction of *Suranga and making of **Beedi. (*Surangas are man-made horizontal caves for collecting water for drinking and irrigation. They provide very safe and clean water on gravity flow without dependence on pumps or any fuel or energy. ** Beedi is a thin, South Asian cigarette filled with tobacco flake and wrapped in a tendu leaf tied with a string at one end.)
Aprt from it, a collection of my 30 shortstories are combined together and named as 'The King Cobra and the Snake Charmer and other Short Stories' is releasing by the Spring of 2012 in United States.
